Press Pool Report on Obama's Visit to Summer Garden
BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Local reporters were not permitted to accompany President Barack Obama this morning when he toured Summer Garden Food Manufacturing Inc. on McClurg Road. As is the White House practice, a local pool reporter was assigned to share a report.
According to Stephanie Warsmith of The Beacon Journal in Akron, the president spent about 20 minutes at the food processing plant.
Tom Zidian, the company's president, showed Obama around and introduced some of his employees who explained the process. The manufacturing plant is LEED certified, which means it uses environmentally friendly practices.
"Where are the big spoons?" Obama asked one of the employees, laughing.
The president asked Zidian if his company uses local ingredients to make its Gia Russa products. Zidian replied that Summer Garden gets its ingredients from several states, including Ohio and California.
"I think I should take some samples back," Obama said, noting he's going to Camp David.
Upon leaving the plant, the Obama campaign bus and its security entourage headed to Dobbins Elementary School in Poland, where about 300 supporters were waiting hear his address.
