Obama to Speak Friday at Poland's Dobbins School
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –President Barack Obama will speak Friday at Dobbins Elementary School in Poland Township as part of his two-day "Betting on America" bus tour, his re-election campaign announced minutes ago. The speech, an additonal stop on the tour, will take place at 10:45 a.m.
President Obama's re-election campaign confirmed this morning that it was considering the addition of a Mahoning Valley stop to the president's bus tour.
Said Ben LaBolt, Obama for America national press secretary, "We're taking a look to see whether we can add a stop in the Mahoning Valley."
Early speculation that the president would speak in adjacent Boardman Township appeared to have been confirmed during a campaign conference call this morning. In remarks previewing the tour, scheduled Thursday and Friday through Ohio and Pennsylvania, former Gov. Ted Strickland told reporters Ohio has made "a lot of progress over the past 3½ years" that it couldn't have made without Obama's leadership. "That's what folks are seeing in Maumee and Sandusky and Akron and Boardman and all across the state," said Strickland, a former congressman whose district included southern Mahoning County.
The schedule released Friday morning by the campaign listed stops Thursday in Maumee, Sandusky and Parma, and a single afternoon stop Friday at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
In 1996, President Bill Clinton, during his re-election campaign, paid a July 4 visit to Youngstown at the B&O Station.
Late Friday the chairman of the Columbiana County Republican Party, David Johnson, announced that the Romney campaign bus will stop Friday at the County GOP headquarters in Lisbon. The stop, scheduled for 4 p.m., will not include Romney butwill feature his "top state campaign staff," according to Johnson, as well as U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio 6 as well as Columbiana County's Republican slate.
