Pennsylvania Taxpayers Could Save $9.65 Million Annually
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvlania recently awarded the commonwealth's strategically sourced office-supplies contract to Boise/OfficeMax, reports Gov. Edward G. Rendell. The new contract is expected to net taxpayers an annual savings of $9.65 million, or 43%, from the previous contract, he says.As a result of the new contract, Boise/OfficeMax expects to add an estimated 100 jobs to its 1,400-employee Pennsylvania work force and will partner with George Courier Service, the only state-certified minority-owned courier service in Pennsylvania. Some 45% of the office-supplies contract will go to the small, disadvantaged, Pennsylvania-based business. The contract features next-day delivery on most purchases and allows the commonwealth to purchase contract items at the same discounted prices at any of Pennsylvania's 29 OfficeMax retail stores."This contract demonstrates the success of strategic sourcing at every level," said Governor Rendell. "Not only have we used market forces to negotiate savings of nearly $10 million for Pennsylvania taxpayers, we have successfully included Pennsylvania small business, achieved 45 percent minority and women-owned business participation and helped retain and create Pennsylvania jobs.""This partnership with the Commonwealth offers job stability for the 1,400 Pennsylvanians who work for Boise/OfficeMax," says Ken Cupp, senior vice president of Boise Office Solutions. "In addition, we will be doubling the size of our warehouse in Bristol, Pa., and will be adding an estimated 100 jobs to our 1,400-employee Pennsylvania work force. We see positive job growth ahead for Boise/OfficeMax in Pennsylvania.""
