MVEDC, Trumbull County Share in $2.7M in Grant Awards"
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The state of Ohio today awarded more than $2.7 million in development grants to nine private and public entities in Ohio -- including the Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. and Trumbull County. The grants, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, are expected to create 849 jobs and retain 1,294 positions.The grants were drawn on two programs, the business development account and the roadwork development account. "These grants help stimulate development and bring good jobs to Ohioans," said Bruce Johnson, state development director. The Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. will receive a $40,000 grant to assist with a roadwork expansion leading to Youngstown Commerce Park in North Jackson Township. The project will allow for a 10,000-square foot addition to Precision Machine Controls' current 13,000-square-foot facility in the Commerce Park. Precision Machine is a designer and manufacturer of industrial electrical control and testing systems. In addition, this expansion will enable an additional 20 acres in the industrial park to be developed for future tenant facilities. This project is expected to create 15 news jobs.Trumbull County will receive a $100,000 grant to assist with roadwork improvements at AEROPark Drive and Vienna Parkway. The project is being undertaken because the current roadway is in poor condition. Current tenants Timken and Delphi Packard Electric have cited it as an impediment to future expansion at the park.Other development grants awarded today were:Oldcastle APG in Lorain County will receive a $40,000 business development grant to extend a rail spur to the company's property in the Village of Sheffield. Upon completion the company plans to establish a new facility to manufacture patio bricks and goods. This $12.4 million project is expected to create 40 jobs at the project's site.Therma-Tru Corp., a manufacturer of specialty doors and windows in Lucas County, will receive a $200,000 business development grant to assist with building improvements necessary for the company's corporate headquarters expansion in Maumee. The $8.6 million project is expected to create 47 jobs and retain 78 positions.The city of Brecksville in Cuyahoga County will receive a $400,000 grant for the upgrade and expansion of a road within the Brecksville Industrial Park. This expansion will accommodate National City Consumer Loan Servicing Center's expansion of its operations by adding another 35,000 square feet to its existing facility. This project is expected to create 150 jobs and retain 850 positions.The Carroll County commissioners will receive a $100,000 grant to assist with the construction of a new access road and storm sewer improvements in the Carroll County Commerce Park. Roadwork improvements will allow Shaw Publications Inc., a Yellow Pages phone book publisher, to construct an administration and commercial printing facility in the industrial park. The new road will also open several additional lots for development. Th project is expected to create 12 jobs and retain 37 positions.The city of Columbus in Franklin County will receive a $216,000 grant to assist with improvements to New Albany Road East. Two traffic signals will be installed at the site, benefiting an expansion by Evans, Mechwart, Hambleton and Tilton, a firm specializing in civil engineering, surveying, environmental management and land planning, as well as more than 1,200 other jobs in the corridor. This $13.1 million project is expected to create 85 jobs and retain 329 positions.The Ohio Department of Transportation in Ross County will receive a $685,000 grant to assist with roadwork improvement costs associated with the USEC American Centrifuge Plant, a supplier of low-enriched uranium for commercial nuclear power plants. A new commercial uranium plant is being planned for the site. This $1.1 billion project is expected to create 500 jobs. In addition, Pike County will receive a $1 million roadwork development grant to construct two bridge replacements near the future plant's site."
