MVEDC Gets Grant to Boost Rural Businesses
COLUMBUS -- The Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp. will receive a $99,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development office. The local development agency, located in Liberty Township,was among 10 Ohio deveopment agencies awarded $1 million in grants earmarked by the USDA for assisting businesses in rural areas."Ohio continues to do well in ensuring its rural communities have access to these strategically supportive business funds," said Randy Hunt, USDA state director. "This funding helps Ohio businesses create or save more than 175 local jobs and positively impacts economic conditions of rural communities."The grants are designed to finance and facilitate the development of small and emerging business enterprises. Public bodies and nonprofit corporations can use the funds to buy land and equipment, build plants, roads or make qualified loans to third parties.Other Ohio recipients include: Southern Ohio Growth Partnership, Portsmouth, $500,000; Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative, Piketon, $188,130; Coshocton Port Authority, Coshocton, $150,000; Neighborhood Development Services, Ravenna, $150,000; Downtown Lima, Lima, $99,000; Agricultural Incubator Foundation, Wood County, $99,000; Erie Basin Resource Conservation and Development, Huron County, $99,000; Ohio State University Research Foundation, Piketon, $97,870; and Noble County Commissioners, Noble County, $60,000."
