Malpractice Crisis in Valley Topic of Town Meeting
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Solutions to the medical malpractice crisis in the Mahoning Valley is the topic of discussion at a town meeting for area doctors Sept. 22. Sponsored by the Tri-County Physicians for Patients' Rights, the meeting will be held in Kilcawley Center on the Youngstown State University campus.The event, scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will bring together area doctors and leaders of the medical community and is open to doctors practicing in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, community leaders and local media representatives.The town meeting is the latest initiative in the Where Does It Hurt? Campaign, which is spearheaded by the sponsoring organization, which includes members of the Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana medical societies, other interested physicians and health care providers. "Since we launched the campaign in April, we've got the public's attention that the threat to health care here is real and will continue unless we put a stop to abuse of malpractice law," said Dr. Marc Saunders, president of the Mahoning County Medical Society. "As a community of physicians, the onus is now on us to strive to make a difference by talkingto our patients about the policies and candidates we are supporting in the upcoming election."Guest speakers include Ann Womer Benjamin, director of the Ohio Department of Insurance; Dr. Lois Nora, president and dean of the Institute for Community-based Medicine and Law at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine; and Tim Maglione, legislative director of the Ohio State Medical Association.Visit the initiative: www.wheredoesithurt.org"
