License Plate Supports Ohio Cattlemen's Foundation
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A new license plate recognizing Ohio's beef industry is now available for sale from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. A portion of plate cost will be given to the Ohio Cattlemen's Foundation, which supports the industry through scholarships and education programs. "Ohio has more than 1.25 million head of cattle and calves," said Franklin Caltrider, BMV registrar. "These plates recognize the importance of the industry to our state and our economy."The plates cost $25 in addition to the normal registration fees. They may be issued to passenger vehicles, non-commercial trucks, motor homes, house vehicles and non-commercial trailers, Caltrider said. The plates will be issued at any deputy registrar's office, by mail, or online. Cattlemen's license plates may also be ordered as reserved or personalized plates with additional applicable fees. The Ohio Cattlemen's Foundation will receive $15 from each plate sale, Caltrider noted. The foundation was formed to advance educational and scientific activities dedicated to the improvement of beef production and marketing practices and to teach groups like educators, extension agents, and health professionals about issues important to the beef industry. Proceeds from plate sales will help fund education programs. The foundation awards undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships to students interested in pursuing studies in animal science or food science. It also provides education programs involving hands-on lessons that teach nutrition, food safety, animal welfare and environmental education.Visit the Ohio Cattlemen's Foundation: www.ohiocattle.org/foundation.htmOrder license plates online: www.oplates.com"
