NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Orders are currently being taken for a new book, The History of New Wilmington: 1797-2003: The Story of a Small Town. This 12-chapter book, which includes more than 100 photographs, explores the history of town government, community services and utilities, civic and community organizations, churches and the Amish, Native Americans, family histories, and Westminster College."There are some facts that you might not know about New Wilmington," says Al Sternbergh, a member of the book committee. "How did the town get its name? There is some evidence related to the early settlement of our town that it was named after Wilmington, Delaware. New Wilmington is the only town in the United States with this name."Most of the earliest settlers came here to claim their Donation Land awarded them by the colonial government for services rendered during the Revolutionary War," Sternbergh continues. "We are certain that those who purchase this first complete history of New Wilmington will find it a good 'reading companion' and bring forth a treasure trove of lasting memories."Advance order forms are available at the Westminster College Alumni Office or the Westminster College Bookstore. For more information about the project, call Sternbergh at (724) 946-2739.Founded in 1852 and related to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Westminster College is ranked among national leaders in graduation rate performance, according to U.S. News Guide to America's Best Colleges, and is one of the most affordable national liberal arts colleges in Pennsylvania.Visit Westminster College: www.westminster.edu"
