Gerhart Named Head of Shenango Valley Chamber
SHARON, Pa. -- George M. Gerhart, coordinator of the graduate program at the Shenango campus of Penn State University, has been named executive director and chief executive officer of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, Jerry Nighswander announces.Gerhart, a resident of Sharon, assumes his duties in late January, Nighswander said. Nighswander is president of the chamber. Gerhart, a graduate of Penn State, has been an administrator 35 years at its Shenango and Fayette campuses. At the latter he was coordinator of its graduate program. Before that her was dean/director of student affairs and financial aid officer. Many distinguished and qualified applicants sought the post, Nighswander said, but his board of directors found Gerhart the most qualified. "George is a long standing, highly respected leader in the Shenango Valley community, the chamber president stated. "George will make an immediate and significant impact on the chamber's efforts in this role of furthering [its] growth and in [its] increased involvement in the economic development of our valley."In 2004 the chamber reviewed the role it plays in the Shenango Valley, Nighswander said, and "is poised to have an even more expanded role to play in our community." Gerhart is secretary and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Sharon, on the board of Keystone Blind Association. He was honored as Shenango Valley "Citizen of the Year" on Buhl Day in 2000. "
