Essroc Earns Safety Award from Portland Cement Association
BESSEMER, Pa. -- Essroc Cement Co.'s Bessemer Operations have been awarded a letter of recognition from the Portland Cement Association for major safety improvements in the past year. The PCA is an organization representing cement companies in the United States and Canada.Essroc was honored for reducing lost time injury frequency rates in its Bessemer Operations by 71%. The safety achievement was recognized at the recent annual Cement Industry Technical Conference in Chattanooga, Tenn."Many factors went into this accomplishment, most notably the Italcementi's Zero Accident Program," says Paul Landman, Bessemer Operations administrative manager. "Individual commitment by our employees and enhanced communication efforts have contributed to our safer work record."Italcementi is Essroc's parent company.The Zero Accident Program was introduced last year, and Landman says Essroc has plans to better its record this year. "The Bessemer team hopes to continue this trend with more hard work as we focus on our 2004 Action Plan," he notes. "We believe further improvement can be achieved."Essroc, with an annual production capacity of nearly six million metric tons, is the fifth largest cement producer in North America and is part of the Italcementi Group of companies, a world leader in cement and building materials production, technology and research. Headquartered in Nazareth, Pa., Essroc operates clinker and cement production facilities in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. "
