Grove City College Gets $100,000 Grant
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College has received a $100,000 grant from the Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust. The funds will be put toward construction of the new science, engineering and mathematics building.
Since 2009, Phillips Trust has provided $300,000 in support of this project.
The construction of the new building is a key component of "Grove City Matters: A Campaign to Advance Grove City College," which at $90 million is the largest capital campaign in the college’s history. “This building will provide state-to-the-art facilities for teaching and research, and in particular will support our efforts in innovative pedagogies and collaborative student-faculty research activities,” said Dr. Stacy Birmingham, dean of the Albert A. Hopeman Jr. School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics and professor of engineering.
The Phillips Trust has provided generous support for scholarships and many campus building projects in the college’s history, including a $250,000 gift for the construction of the field house in 1979, which was named in honor of Dr. Arthur Phillips, a 1914 graduate, and his wife, Rosalie. Phillips, a physician, attended Oberlin College in Ohio and later transferred to Grove City College. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1914 before entering medical school at the University of Pennsylvania.
Over the years, the Phillips Trust has supported numerous projects and scholarships at colleges and universities throughout Pennsylvania.
