Eastern Gateway Warren Center to Open in January
WARREN, Ohio -- Work will begin immediately on renovating the former Mickey’s Army-Navy Store downtown for Eastern Gateway Community College’s expanded Warren Center, EGCC officials report.
Higher Education Partner-EGCC Ohio LLC recently finalized its purchase of the Main Street building with owner Marty Cohen. HEP is the college’s partner in the operation of the Valley Center in Youngstown and now will partner with the college for the build-out and operation of the new Warren Center at 239 Main St.
The new center, which opens for classes Jan. 4, will feature four classrooms and several offices with staff to serve Eastern Gateway’s growing student population. The number of Trumbull County students enrolled rose to 308, up from 227 in fall 2013.
In March, the American Association of Community Colleges ranked Eastern Gateway, which has its main campus in Steubenville, 16th on its list of the nation’s fastest-growing community colleges in the 2,500-4999 student category. This fall, Eastern Gateway posted a record enrollment of 3,155 students.
The increased space in Warren will afford residents more higher education opportunities as well as state-of-the-art classrooms and equipment. The space will include a bookstore and student lounge in 2015.
Businesses remaining in the plaza will include Subway, Dub City and PsyCare.
Prior to the move to the Main Street building, students and residents may inquire about the college at the current Warren Center at 103 W. Market St. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and the phone number is 330 393 0331.
