College/Career Night Feb.15 at Liberty High School
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education will host a college/career event tomorrow at Liberty High School. The event is open to all Trumbull County families, and representatives from area colleges and universities and local businesses will address academic and financial college/career preparation.
The partnership also will announce a new free online ACT training product, and parents will learn more about how to get college credit for their student children while they are still in high school.
The Partnership was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and a matching grant from The Kresge Foundation, officials said. The total award of $20,000 will be used to fund this program designed to increase the number of people in the Youngstown-Warren area with college degrees. The challenge grant is sponsored by CEOs for Cities, the national organization that ignited the Talent Dividend movement to increase the number of college graduates in the United States.
Youngstown is one of 57 cities nationwide in a Talent Dividend Prize competition vying for a $1 million prize for the city that achieves the greatest increase in the number of college degrees awarded by 2014. The prize-winning city will use the $1 million toward a national promotional campaign centered on the city’s talent development.
Participating entities include Youngstown State University, Kent State University Trumbull, Eastern Gateway Community College, National College, Mahoning Career & Technical Center, Trumbull Career & Technical Center, Seven Seventeen Credit Union, and Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education. Representatives from these organizations will discuss such topics as College in High School, You’ve Graduated, Now What? Life After High School, Financial Planning and How to Save.
The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and parents or guardians in attendance will be eligible to win an Apple iPad 2. For more information, call 330 675 7624.
