Ohio Business Filings Show Gains in May
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- New business flings last month were up 7% from a year earlier, state Secretary of State Jon Husted reports. In May, 8,229 new entities filed to do business in Ohio, up from the 7,687 that filed to do business in May 2012.
Through May, Husted’s office assisted with 40,733 new business filing, up from 39,252 filings though the first five months of 2012, the office reported. The office is the first stop for individuals and companies who want to file and start a business in Ohio.
While the numbers don’t provide a complete picture of Ohio’s jobs climate, Husted said they are an important indicator of economic activity.
New business filings are forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
