Well Permits for Columbiana Total 47
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued its 47th horizontal well permit for Columbiana County, according to records.
ODNR issued a permit for Chesapeake Exploration LLC on July 17 to drill into the Point Pleasant shale formation on the Andrulis farm in Center Township. The Point Pleasant formation is considered a part of the broader Utica shale play in eastern Ohio, where energy companies believe there is a vast repository of natural gas liquids.
Three permits were also issued to Enervest Operating LLC for drilling rights in Stark County and one in Summit for Beck Energy Corp., ODNR reported.
Chesapeake was issued four additional permits for horizontal wells, two in Jefferson County and two more in Harrison County, the agency said.
Hess Energy Corp., which has partnered with Pittsburgh-based Consol Energy Corp., was issued five permits to drill in Harrison County, while Oxford Oil was issued two permits for prospective wells in Noble County.
