St. Clair Chamber to Sponsor Oil and Gas Workshop
CALCUTTA, Ohio -- The St. Clair Township Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the township's board of rustees, will sponsor an "Oil and Gas Workshop" for local businesses April 3. A panel of experts will present ways in which local businesses can prepare and plan for developments as a result of the Marcellus and Utica Shale boom.
Linda Woggon, vice president of governmental affairs from the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, is a featured speaker. The workshop is not about leasing mineral rights for property owners and is not a job fair; the goal is to provide up-to-date information for local businesses in an effort to assist businesses in preparing and making informed and smart decisions, the chamber said in a news release.
For every one direct job in the energy sector, an estimated 13 indirect jobs result, studies have found. Direct jobs are those industries that provide services directly to the oil and gas industry, such as welding supplies, pipelines, trucking, gravel, paving and housing. Examples of indirect jobs would be food, fuel, clothing & shoes, laundry services, homes improvements, auto sales and repair. There will be increased need in health care, primary education and secondary education as well, the chamber said.
This workshop is offered to all area businesses free of charge and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Peter Metrovich Community Center in the St. Clair Township building. For more information, call Debbie Miller, chamber executive director, at 330 386 6060.
