New Permits for Wells in Columbiana, Mahoning
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued another permit for Chesapeake Exploration LLC o drill a horizontal well into the Utica shale that lies deep beneath Columbiana County.
The permit allows a well to be drilled on the Henceroth property off Lisbon-Dungannon Road in Hanover Township.
The latest well permit for Oklahoma-based Chesapeake is its18th permit in Columbiana County and fourth in the township.
Two Chesapeake wells are waiting to be hydraulically fractured, a process in which water and sand are blasted into the ground to fracture the shale and release natural gas deposits.
In Mahoning County, ODNR has granted a permit for a well on the Jarvis farm in Goshen township, bring the township’s total to seven.
No new permits were reported this week for Carroll County, but two more wells have been completed: one on the White property in Lee Township and one on the Bucey property in East Township.
Ten wells in the Carroll County are waiting to be fracked including nine in Lee and one in East.
Chesapeake holds 49 permits for horizontal drilling in Carroll, according to the latest ODNR records.
