New Drilling Permit for Columbiana County
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Four new drilling permits were issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources last week, three of which were awarded to Chesapeake Exploration LLC, a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp.
Chesapeake was issued a horizontal drilling permit on May 2 at the Altenhof farm, located in Hanover Township in Columbiana County, ODNR reported.
To date, 32 horizontal drilling permits to explore the Utica shale play have been issued in Columbiana County, all of them to Chesapeake.
The company is the single-largest leaseholder with 1.3 million acres in the Utica, which encompasses most of eastern Ohio.
Chesapeake was also issued a new permit on May 3 to drill in Carroll County on the Neider property in Washington Township. To date, the Neider site has been awarded six permits to drill horizontal wells. One of those wells is producing and another is being drilled.
In Jefferson County, Chesapeake secured new permit May 3 to drill in Ross Township at the McClain farm, while Hess Ohio Resources LLC was awarded a permit to drill in Cross Creek Township on April 30.
