YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hilcorp Energy Co., the most active driller in Mahoning County, has received six new permits for wells in Mercer County, Pa., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The DEP awarded two horizontal permits for new wells in Jefferson Township on the Jefferson McGhee pad and four new vertical permits at the same site.
Often, a vertical permit is issued before a horizontal permit is approved by the DEP.
No new permits were issued in Lawrence County last week, records show.
Hilcorp holds 12 permits and has drilled two wells in Poland Township, one of which is producing, in Mahoning County.
The company is also a partner with NiSource Midstream in developing the Hickory Bend project, a $300 million pipeline and processing network that is operated by the partnership's entity, Pennant Midstream.
Pennant is closing in on completion of the first phase of a large cryogenic plant along State Line Road in Springfield Township.
The latest round of permits issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources show a continued interest in the southern portion of the Utica shale play.
ODNR awarded nine permits for the week ended Dec. 7, records show.
Chesapeake Exploration LLC, a division of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy, received the go-ahead to drill four new horizontal wells in Carroll County while R.E. Gas Development LLC, a subsidiary of Rex Energy, was awarded two permits to drill in Carroll, ODNR reports.
Also in the Utica, Hess Ohio Resources received two permits for horizontal wells in Belmont County. EM Energy Ohio LLC received a single permit for a horizontal well in Monroe County.
No permits were issued for wells in Trumbull, Mahoning, or Columbiana counties for the week ended Dec. 7, according to ODNR records.
