Delphi Expands Presence in Japan
TOKYO -- Delphi Corp. has opened a new engineering facility and two new customer service centers in Japan. The new engineering office is near Nagoya; the new customer service centers are in Utsunomiya and Hiroshima.With the new facilities, Delphi now operates eight facilities in Japan, including its headquarters, the technical center in Tokyo, and an aftermarket sales office in Osaka. Delphi also has a joint-venture manufacturing site in Utsunomiya."We know how important it is to our Japanese OEM customers to have local support in their home market, so we are pleased to enhance our presence here," says J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, chief executive officer and president. "With our major engineering centers in all four regions of the world, we'll be able to provide around-the-clock support to our customers here."The new engineering office has product-testing facilities that will allow Delphi engineers to jointly evaluate products and systems with its customers. The office also is equipped with an advanced videoconference system that enables Delphi engineers and customers to communicate globally.The new customer service support centers will allow Delphi to provide enhanced sales engineering services to its customers. Both facilities are capable of further expansion to meet future business requirements."The basis of these new facilities is to build long-term relations with our Japanese customers while continuing to provide quality products with cutting-edge technology at competitive prices. Chon, president of Delphi Asia Pacific operations.Delphi has some 9,000 employees and operates 14 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 17 joint ventures, and six technical centers in the Asia Pacific region.The company has won several quality awards from Toyota this year, along with a delivery award from Honda.
