Court Paves Way for MTR Gaming to Develop Racino
CHESTER, W.V. -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has denied a Petition for Allowance of Appeal filed by Pittsburgh Palisades, which aimed to challenge the state Racing Commission's July 17, 2003, reinstatement of MTR Gaming Group's license to build Presque Isle Downs, a thoroughbred racetrack with pari-mutuel wagering in Erie, Pa. "We are very pleased to put this final legal challenge behind us, and look forward to moving ahead with the development of Presque Isle Downs at our licensed site in Summit Township," said Edson R. [Ted] Arneault, president and chief executive officer of MTR Gaming.Plans to build Presque Isle Downs were announced on Sept. 26, 2002, when Arneault described the project as a racing facility with dirt and turf racing that will also offer concerts, entertainment, and fine and casual dining. At that time, Arneault said he hoped the new complex would be open in time for the start of the 2004 racing season.
