"Youngstown Symphony Society Expects $150,000 Grant"
"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A federal grant of $150,000 for the Youngstown Symphony Society community outreach education program, has been earmarked in the fiscal year 2005 federal budget. The funding is the largest single grant for educational programming in the history of the Symphony Society, according to U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Ohio), who spearheaded the grant.The funds will be used by the Society to present school-release Young People's Concerts at the Edward W. Powers Auditorium, provide musical performances and learning experiences for students engaged in the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra and Youngstown Symphony Symphonette programs and in-school musical programs that correlate and reinforce base core curricula objectives, said Patricia Syak, executive director of the society. Funds also will be used to reach out to hospitalized children through a series of musical therapy programs and to enhance the Symphony Society's informational Web site, she added.More than 20,000 children and their families in northeast Ohio will benefit from the community outreach programs that seek to enhance learning and the healing process through the power of music, Syak said.Visit the Youngstown Symphony Society: www.youngstownsymphony.com"
