"United Way Expects to Reach, Surpass, $3.2M Goal for 2004"
"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way expects it will have raised $3.21 million in its 2004 annual campaign once all the pledges made last year are collected, Tom Hollern, chairman of 2004 campaign announced, this morning.Hollern is Youngstown area president of National City Bank.If the United Way's projections prove correct, the sum raised would be $205,000 more than that raised in 2003 and $10,000 more than the goal set at the outset of for 2004."We deeply appreciate the support the entire community has shown as we work to support the vital programs of our funded agencies," Hollern said. He thanked the many companies, their employees, labor unions in the Mahoning Valley and individual donors for their support. The funds United Way raises, Hollern continued, pay for the operations of more than 90 programs offered by 30 affiliated agencies that benefit one of every four people in the community. Funding is focused on five areas: nurturing children, enriching the lives of older residents, promoting health and wellness, caring for people in crisis and helping people achieve their potential. The president of United Way, Don Cagigas, commended Hollern and the volunteers for their efforts that should allow United Way to exceed it s goal. "While we are thrilled to announce that we've achieved our goal," he said, "it has been a difficult campaign. If not for the hard work of a core group of volunteers, a number of special gifts, and quite frankly a little luck, we could not have achieved our goal."Final results and recognition of donors and volunteers will occur at United Way's annual meeting April 27.And it's not too late for individuals to enter the Greenwood Chevrolet/United Way Chevy Cobalt Driveaway, marketing director Joann Stock said. Any donor who gives at least $2 a week, or a total annual gift of $104, is eligible to win a 2005 Cobalt, donated by Greenwood Chevrolet.Entries will ne accept until April 1 and the drawing to determine the winner will be held at the annual meeting. For details, visit www.ymvunitedway.org or call the United Way offices at 330 746 8494.
