Primary Health Opens Old Schoolhouse Health Center
"SHARON, Pa. -- The Primary Health Network recently assumed operations of the location formerly known as the Saltsburg Medical Center in Saltsburg, Pa. With the addition of this health center and the Jacksonville Family Medicine Center on Oct. 1, PHN now has two locations in Indiana County. "There is a growing need for community healthcare throughout western Pennsylvania," said Jack Laeng, executive director of PHN. "By adding locations in Saltsburg and Jacksonville, we will be able to provide necessary services to more people and families." A grand opening celebration for the Old Schoolhouse Health Center in Saltsburg is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 1. "Too many families now rely on hospital emergency rooms for their basic health care needs," commented Sen. Don White (R-41st). "Often, they have no other choice if they live in an area where medical facilities and professionals are scarce. The Old Schoolhouse Health Center will help many families receive the health care services that they need." The Old Schoolhouse Health Center provides comprehensive primary care services and access to specialty care commensurate with their patients. These services are offered regardless of age, race, creed, sex, income or national origin and are developed in collaboration with other community resources, Laeng said.Michael Neiswonger will serve as the primary physician for the center, and Cresencio Wilson Umali, M.D., also will provide primary care services.Founded in 1984 as the Farrell Health Center, PHN provides medical, dental and optometry services in Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer and Indiana counties. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, PHN is the largest nonprofit community health center in the region and the only one to serve Indiana County. PHN has 204 full and part-time employees. "
