"Neil, YSU Prof Under Fire, Resigns"
"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- William Bruce Neil, an associate professor in Youngstown State University's human ecology department, will resign effective Aug. 15, the university announced today.Neil, coordinator of YSU's hospitality management program, submitted a letter of resignation Aug. 3.Under the terms of his resignation, Neil will be paid $30,000 and will continue to receive university health insurance and medical benefits through the end of the year.If Neil's employment had been terminated, according to the terms of the faculty contract, he would have been entitled to a full year's salary, amounting to about $62,000, and a full year's worth of benefits.In May, YSU's Professional Conduct Committee began investigating allegations that Neil had misrepresented his academic credentials. In June, the committee upheld the charge of professional misconduct. Neil appealed the decision and a committee was formed by YSU President David C. Sweet to review the case. With Neil's resignation, the appeal committee will be disbanded.YSU also announced today that Robert Campbell, associate professor of human ecology, has agreed to retire at the end of the 2006-07 academic, under the terms of a settlement agreement with the university.Campbell, who has been on paid sick leave since April 5 on the advice of his physician, will remain on paid sick leave until all of his accumulated sick leave is exhausted. While on paid sick leave, he will receive his base salary of $66,926 for the 2004-05 academic year. When his sick leave is exhausted, Campbell will immediately be placed on medical leave without pay due to illness until he retires in May 2007."
