"Sites Off to Healthy StartHospitals post pictures of newborn babies.Move over, WebMD.com. You've got plenty of competition from health-related companies and organizations in the Mahoning Valley. From hospitals to nursing homes to specialty providers, local folks will find the area has plenty to offer online.Hospitals, not surprisingly, have particularly well-developed Web sites. One of the best is Sharon Regional Health System (www.sharonregional.com), which offers information on everything from services and departments to lists of upcoming classes and programs. Looking for a job? Check here -- and apply online. These days, of course, one of the best features of most hospital Web sites is babies -- and Sharon Regional doesn't disappoint. Photos of newborns are usually posted within 48 hours after each goes home.Forum Health and Humility of Mary Health Partners, both of which operate hospitals and free-standing facilities throughout the Mahoning Valley, put loads of information on their Web sites (www.forumhealth.org and www.hmpartners.org). HM posts photos of babies born at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren, and St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, while Forum's "Cherished Memories" section showcases infants born at Northside Hospital, Youngstown, and Warren's Trumbull Memorial Hospital.Forum's baby section also offers more than a measure of security (most hospitals don't list last names for obvious reasons). But here, before access is granted, visitors must enter a hospital code and the unique code given to each new mother with the photo order form. Forum and HM both post available jobs; at Forum, visitors can download an application form, while HM invites online resume submissions.Salem Community Hospital (www.salemhosp.com) also posts job openings, with the e-mail address of the contact person. Here, the BabyNet newborn photos are organized by the baby's sex. A site map offers directions, policies for mail and flowers and much more.East Liverpool Community Hospital (www.elch.org) also puts employment opportunities online, noting, however, that resumes and applications are welcome at any time. One section directs health professionals to continuing education sites while another offers links to local places of interest and to other sources of health information online. The Frequently Asked Questions section explains just about everything patients and their families might need to know.ELCH offers one helpful feature not found elsewhere -- visitors can order flowers for delivery to patients via Bob & Robin's Flowers, a Teleflora affiliate florist based in East Liverpool. Park Vista Retirement Community, the Youngstown affiliate of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services, packs plenty of information at its Web site (www.oprs.org; then click on "OPRS Communities" link in lefthand column). Park Vista's newsletter is posted in PDF format, and links offer information on everything from services, such as rehab therapy and Alzheimer's/dementia care, to area attractions. Visitors also can check for job openings and apply online; iPix virtual tours provide a 360-degree look inside the facility.Similarly, Autumn Hills Care Center, Niles, offers an inside look at facilities online (www.autumnhills.com). Each section, such as "Dining & Nutrition," is described in detail and includes a quick-loading color photograph. The section on Helpful Information really is; here, visitors can get information on choosing a nursing facility, an overview of the discharge planning process and more. One of the best features is that visitors may send e-mail messages to residents. The new Westford Living Community, Canfield, a community being developed by CTW Development Corp., includes an assisted living facility. Although the Web site (www.westfordlife.com) is still a work in progress, it's already complete with music and animation. Visitors to the site can learn about this unique community, which includes an 18-holesemi-private golf course, more than 100 single-family homes, professional suites and offices and -- down the road -- a hotel."
