"Area Truck Sales Rose in '04, Cars Fell"
"LIBERTY Township, Ohio -- New truck sales in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties were slightly higher in 2004 than 2003 but new car sales fell a bit, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reports.In its summary for December, the ADAEO reported that dealers in the three counties sold 742 new trucks, bringing the number sold in 2004 to 10,786, up from 10,402 in 2003. Chevrolet remained the most popular make, with 248 trucks sold for the month and 4,020 for the year, down slightly from 4,038 sold in 2003. Ford, which sold 156 trucks last month, improved on its tally of 2,047 in 2003, moving to 2,142 units in 2004.Dealers in the region sold 1,576 new cars last month, bringing their year's sales to 20,271, down from 20,967 in 2003. The most popular make -- Chevrolet, with 464 cars sold in December -- saw its annual sales fall from 5,086 units in 2003 to 4,763 in 2004. Chevrolet is the manufacturer of the Cavalier, assembled in Lordstown and retired last fall. The Cobalt has replaced the Cavalier.Pontiac was the second-most popular make sold last month, with 370 vehicles sold to reach a total of 3,965 for 2004, up from 3,862 the previous year. "
