Swedish Execs Here Tuesday for YBI Announcement
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Business Incubator Tuesday will host two officials from Stockholm, Sweden, who are affiliated with the University Business Incubator Index for an announcement of YBI’s 2014 global ranking.
Last July, YBI was ranked 11th worldwide among 150 university-affiliated incubators The UBII website features a countdown clock to the announcement. The fact that two of the company's top executives are coming here for the event, which will be webcast worldwide, suggests big news is forthccoming. All that YBI officials will say is that its 2014 ranking will be released at 10 a.m. and a reception will be held at 5 p.m.
The UBII officials, Ali Amin and Dhruv Bhatli, are the CEO and co-founder, respectively, of the UBI Index, which describes itself as a “thought leader in performance analysis of business incubators around the world.” More than 300 incubators in over 60 countries participate in its “comprehensive benchmark,” the company says.
The Youngstown Business Incubator focuses on the development of B2B software application companies. Its 32 portfolio companies operate out of a four-building campus downtown. The YBI campus is also home to a federally funded research and development center, America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute.
“YBI’ s single-best asset is that we have an extensive network of 7,000-plus people all over the world,” states Jim Cossler, CEO, on the YBI website, in response to the 2013 ranking. “I can safely say that we’ve added about 500 high-quality contacts” since UBII’s 2013 ranking. “When we try to launch a company from Youngstown into the global marketplace, you need those contacts.”
YBI is funded in part by the state of Ohio through the Edison Incubator Program, as well as through the JumpStart Entrepreneurial Network.
