Parker Plans to Close Logan Ave. Foundry
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Parker Hannifin Corp. announced Monday that it will close its Logan Avenue foundry over the next 15 months, idling 50 employees, according to media reports.
A company official said the plant, which manufactures metal casings, is old and no longer economically feasible. The closing isn’t expected to affect any of the company’s other operations in the area.
The Logan Avenue plant, identified on its website as the headquarters of its mobile cylinder division, was among the assets that became part of Parker when the Cleveland-headquartered corporation and Commercial Intertech Corp., based in Youngstown, announced they would merge in 2000.
Parker’s annual sales for fiscal 2011 were $12 billion. The company describes itself as “the world's leading diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems, providing precision-engineered solutions for a wide variety of commercial, mobile, industrial and aerospace markets.”
