Caribou Coffee, Cold Stone Creamery Coming to Boardman"
BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Cold Stone Creamery and Caribou Coffee will open next month at The Market at the Shops, a high-end specialty retail center under development in front of The Shops at Boardman Park, partner-developers Dave Handel, Mike Morley and Chuck Bishara announced yesterday. The partnership, Handel Investments, is overseeing development of the The Market project.Currently the home of Vitamin Shoppe, The Market is a redevelopment of the former Western Auto Building into a multi-tenanted property that combines the architectural features of The Shops. The Market features outdoor cafe-style seating, streetscape lighting and close parking. "Redevelopment of this building dramatically improves what is clearly the front door to the entire Shops at Boardman Park project," Handel said.Cold Stone Creamery, a premium ice cream shop, is scheduled to open February 12, and Caribou Coffee will open late in the month. The original Cold Stone Creamery, developed in 1988, currently operates in 46 states including Alaska and Hawaii as well as in the Caribbean and Guam. Cold Stone Creamery is an independently owned franchise system, headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., according to Handel, manager and developer of The Shops and The Market.Caribou Coffee, headquartered in Minneapolis, is the second largest U.S. specialty coffee company. Caribou operates 290 stores in 13 states and and has more than 4,000. Caribou's whole bean Columbian caffeinated coffee is the only coffee among 42 tested to receive an excellent rating in a national consumer's magazine December 2004 issue. The shop also offers a selection of teas, smoothies and children's drinks as well as light-fare foods such as baked goods, sandwiches and salads. Carryout catering of coffee and bakery items also will be available, Handel said."
