Business Volunteers Needed for United Way Day Of Caring
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Volunteers are needed to participate in the 7th annual United Way "Day of Caring", which will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14. A community-wide day of hands-on volunteering, the United Way Day of Caring also serves as the kick-off of the annual United Way campaign. The Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way Day of Caring is an annual community-wide service project in which volunteers from local businesses participate by completing tasks, odd jobs, and organizing activities for United Way agencies. Projects consist of painting, cleaning, home repairs, serving meals, and participating in activities and field trips. When employees volunteer for a Day of Caring Project, they illustrate the impact volunteering has on the community. Through helping the 31 United Way agencies complete much needed projects, volunteers gain a personal understanding of how the United Way helps to meet the needs of the community. It is also a great opportunity to show an organization's team spirit and commitment to making a difference in the Mahoning Valley. "Not only does the Day of Caring help our United Way agencies to complete much-needed tasks, but it provides our volunteers with an opportunity to see first-hand how these agencies work to meet the needs of the community," said Thomas R. Hollern, area president, National City, and chairman of the 2004 Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way campaign"Our United Way is a volunteer-driven organization. Volunteers are active in all aspects of United Way, from raising funds, to public relations, to planning, reviewing community needs, and finally, to investing dollars in programs that will make a difference in the quality of life in our community," said JoAnn Stock, director of campaign and marketing. "Day of Caring emphasizes the importance of volunteerism. Volunteers are vital to the success of our agencies and to the success of our United Way."Volunteers interested in participating in Day of Caring are asked to call (330) 746-8494 before July 1. Information on the program also is available on United Way's Web site (www.ymvunitedway.org). "
