BBB's Document 'Shred Day' Set for June 4
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Identity theft is the fastest growing crime, according to the Better Business Bureau In 2003, ID Theft cost the United States $56.2 billion. In 2004, 9.3 million were victims. Recent studies show that most thieves obtain personal information by going through trash cans.The easiest way to protect your identity is to shred sensitive documents, BBB officials say. To make it easier for consumers and businesses to shred, the Better Business Bureau is holding "Shred Day" on June 4. Consumers and businesses are invited to visit downtown Youngstown and have up to 10 boxes of documents shredded for free.Secure Shred of Youngstown is providing a mobile shredding truck, which will be at International Towers at the corner of Market and East Boardman streets. Times for this event are 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.What should be shredded? Items such as cancelled checks, paid utility bills and credit cards offers.
