Last CEO of First Place Named COO of Talmer
TROY, Mich. -- The Board of Directors of Talmer Bancorp Inc. appointed Thomas C. Shafer, age 55, as chief operating officer of the bank holding company and president of Talmer Bank and Trust effective Monday.
He will be paid $350,000 a year, a continuation of his current base salary. Shafer joined Talmer in 2010 and has served as vice chairman of Talmer Bancorp since 2011.
When Talmer acquired the former First Place Bank based in Warren, Ohio, Shafer served 18 months as its last president and CEO, “leading [its] successful integration and charter consolidation efforts,” the company said in the Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
David Provost, who had been president of Talmer Bank and Trust, stepped down from that post and has become CEO and chairman of Talmer Bancorp and of Talmer Bank and Trust.
In a prepared statement, Provost said, “Tom’s new roles will allow for greater consistency and synergy between our lines of business and allow for a much stronger focus on organic [internal] growth opportunities across our entire organization.”
