Bank One Launches Overnight Payment Service
CHICAGO -- Bank One has launched Overnight Check, a service that allows its customers to send a check as late as 10 p.m. EST for next-business-day delivery to anywhere in the continental United States. The payment delivery service, available through BankOne.com, is the first of its kind offered to consumers on a financial Web site, according to Charles Scharf, head of Retail Financial Services for JPMorgan Chase, parent of Bank One. Bank One already enables customers to make electronic payments to most merchants in just two days. The new service offers checking account customers the option to send money even more quickly. "We want our customers to be able to make payments to anyone, anytime from anywhere," Scharf said. "Overnight Check complements our other payment options by allowing people to send a check late in the evening without leaving home." Overnight Check uses UPS to deliver an official bank check, using funds from a customer's Bank One checking account, to anywhere in the continental U.S. on the next business day by 10:30 a.m. local time. Customers can track the status of their payments at UPS.com using a UPS tracking number. "We found that many of our customers regularly have a need to send a check overnight, either because they've forgotten to make an important payment, they want to avoid a late fee, or because they need to get money to their son or daughter quickly," Scharf noted. The fee for the service is $14.99. The service will become available to Chase checking account customers through Chase.com upon completion of the company's merger integration. Bank One merged with JPMorgan Chase in July 2004.
