Youngstown Jewish Federation Names Lipkin Executive VP
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Area Jewish Federal has appointed Andrew Lipkin executive vice president to succeed Sam Kooperman who served the organization for 41 years, 29 of them as executive vice president.
Lipkin's appointment, announced Tuesday by Bruce Lev, president of the federation's board of directors, was effective Jan. 1. He is only the third person to be appointed executive vice president of the federation in its 80-year history.
“Sam [Kooperman] was a tremendous leader, not only within our community, but also throughout the Valley,” Lev said in a prepared statement. “However, we are very excited about our future. We know that under Andy’s leadership, we will successfully meet any and all challenges ahead of us and continue with our great work moving forward.”
Lev stressed that Lipkin's “long tenure with the federation will ensure a seamless transition."
Lipkin joined the federation in November 1985 as the community relations director and assistant campaign director. He then served as the campaign director and assistant executive vice president before assuming the top post. He began his career in Jewish service in 1982 as a fund raiser for the UJA Federation of New York before coming to Youngstown.
“We are fortunate to have an outstanding Jewish Community Center with full recreation facilities and programming," he said. "Our home for the community’s seniors will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year and is known throughout the state for its superior quality. And, our Jewish Community Relations Council has an excellent reputation locally, statewide and nationally.”
Lipkin lives in Liberty with his wife Hilari. They have two adult children, son Sean, a Chicago attorney, and daughter Rachel, a graduate student at Ohio State.
The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, through its agencies, sustains and enriches the quality of life for Jewish people regionally, in Israel, and worldwide. Its mission is guided by the values of Tzedekah (righteousness), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), Klal Yisrael (responsibility for one another), and Dor L‘dor (continuity of the Jewish people). Through the work of the Thomases Family Foundation, the Federation continues to provide support for worthwhile community projects in the Valley and beyond.
