Yellow Brick Place to Host Cancer Awareness Day
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Yellow Brick Place will host an awareness day July 15 for cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and their friends and families. The local organization is looking to support these individuals as well as raise funds for a cancer wellness center to serve the Mahoning Valley.
The event, scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. at the Stacey Pavilion in Austintown Township Park, will feature free activities for children and families such as music, games, food and refreshments, and bring awareness to the group’s efforts to build a cancer wellness center locally that would offer treatment information, support and other resources.
“Yellow Brick Place will be a physical building one day, but right now it is my dream to provide a place of belonging to cancer patients and reinforce the message of ‘There’s No Place Like Hope,’” said Anna Aey, lead organizer and cancer survivor.
Yellow Brick Place became the vision for Aey, a mother of four girls from Canfield, when her youngest daughter was three. At that time, Aey was diagnosed with lymphoma and fought her battle while raising a family and serving in various volunteer capacities. Since leaving as president of The Junior League of Youngstown, Aey has formed a committee of volunteers who share similar interests.
