WKBN Website Wins Regional Murrow Award
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The WKBN website was awarded the 2012 regional Edward R. Murrow Award in the “Best Broadcast Affiliated Website” category, New Vision Television of Youngstown announced Thursday.
NVT Youngstown competed against television stations in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. This year, Radio Television Digital News Association judges awarded 645 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 14 categories, including overall excellence, breaking news, investigative reporting and best website. Awards are broken up by medium (radio, television, online) and by market size (small and large).
This is the first time WKBN has submitted its website for consideration for a Murrow award. The national Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented in October at the RTDNA Awards Dinner in New York.
RTDNA received more than 3,500 entries during the 2012 awards season, eclipsing 2011 by more than 500 entries and setting an all-time record for entries in what proved to be one of the most competitive Edward R. Murrow Awards seasons in RTDNA history, according to a release from RTDNA.
"The quality of this year's record number of entries was outstanding. Our regional winners had tough competition from their peers and deserve to be very proud of their accomplishments," said Mike Cavender, the association’s executive director.
The WKBN website was nominated last month for an Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters Award for best website. The awards in actual order of finish -- first or second -- will be announced at OAPB's annual convention June 3 in Columbus. The WKBN website won the award last year.
