Bob Dylan to Appear at the Covelli Centre Aug. 28
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Music legend Bob Dylan will appear in concert Aug. 28 at the Covelli Centre, the arena's management announced this morning.
"We've had some incredible music legends grace the stage of Covelli Centre and we are truly honored to have Bob Dylan in Youngstown," said its executive director, Eric Ryan. "It's not often that we get the opportunity to host such an innovator of music and this will sure to be a historic moment at the Covelli Centre."
Dylan last appeared in the Mahoning Valley on the eve of the 1992 presidential election, appearing in concert at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Tickets for his performance Aug. 28 go on sale Friday June 22 at 10 a.m. They will be available at TicketMaster.com, the Covelli Centre box office, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or visiting any Ticketmaster outlet or location.
Dylan has written more than 600 songs, and his songs have been recorded more than 3,000 times by other artists. He continues recording and touring around the world today.
Earlier this month Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama, who described him as one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. In 2009, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
Dylan released his first album in 1962. Known for his rich and poetic lyrics, music historians agree his work had considerable influence on the civil rights movement of the 1960s and has had significant impact on American culture over the past five decades. He has won 11 Grammys, including a lifetime achievement award. He was named a Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Art et des Lettres and has received a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation.
