BBB Offers Free On-Site Document Shredding June 2
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Better Business Bureau and its partner, Shred It, invite the public to Secure Your ID Day June 2 at the Covelli Centre. Businesses and consumers are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of their sensitive paper documents.
BBB staff members will be on hand to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
"Identity theft can happen through a variety of different ways, but shredding paper with sensitive information is the easiest way to protect yourself," said Patricia Rose, BBB president.
The number of identity fraud cases has increased 13% since 2011, according to a report from Javelin Strategy and Research. The Federal Trade Commission also reported that Ohio had more than 7,000 identity fraud cases in 2011, Rose said.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Covelli Center. Participants may bring up to five standard size boxes or bags of documents to be shredded. Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips can be shredded.
Secure Your ID Day is sponsored by Shred It, Covelli Centre, WKBN Fox 17/62, The Cable Guys, The Green Team, Youngstown CityScape and Boy Scout Troop 60.
