Audi Includes Ohio among Recall States
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Audi of America Inc. today announced that it is voluntarily recalling 28,363 A6s in the U.S. from model years 1998 and 1999. All 1998-1999 model year Audi A6 vehicles equipped with a 2.8L V6 five-valve engine and automatic transmission that are registered in cold weather states are included. In a statement issued by the company, Audi said it has determined that, in rare cases while driving at a steady rate of speed for a considerable period of time and during extremely low ambient temperatures (below +5 degrees F), the throttle on affected vehicles may not return to idle position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body. In this instance the driver can apply additional brake force or take other actions (such as shifting into Neutral, turning off the ignition, etc.) to positively stop the vehicle. In the absence of such action, the vehicle may maintain speed when the driver expects the vehicle to slow.Owners of affected vehicles in cold-weather states will be notified by first-class mail in October and instructed to bring their vehicles in so that a replacement throttle body kit can be installed. All work will be completed at no cost to the customer and Audi will reimburse out of pocket expenses related to this recall.Audi has identified cold-weather states as: Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. This repair will be available at no cost to owners in all other U.S. states when requested. There have been no accidents or injuries attributed to this concern.Customers with questions are asked to phone Audi customer relations toll-free at 1-800-822 2834.
