Attorney Colucci Charged with Income Tax Evasion
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- High profile attorney Mark S. Colucci, temporarily suspended in June from practicing law by the Ohio Supreme Court, now faces 19 counts of failing to pay personal income taxes as well as federal income taxes he withheld from his employees.The charges were handed down this morning in the form of an information. The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Peter C. Economus in Youngstown.Colucci is accused of withholding from employees $29.827 over the course of six years in federal incomes taxes and federal insurance contributions.He also is accused of not paying $291,149 in his own federal income taxes over five years -- 1998 through 2002.In temporarily suspending Colucci from practice, the Ohio Supreme Court said the attorney had "committed numerous violations of the code of professional responsibility and that he poses a substantial threat of serious harm to his clients and the public." Clients had accused Colucci of accepting payments then not performing agreed upon work.Colucci most recently represented former WKBN anchor and reporter Catherine Bosley, and was successful in blocking sales of photos and videotapes featuring Bosley in a wet T-shirt contest.Two years ago he represented then-Congressman James A. Traficant in a $500 million civil lawsuit he filed in hopes of stopping Traficant's bribery trial from beginning. The lawsuit was dismissed almost as soon as it was filed."
