Thursday, February 10, 2005"BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Workers in the Tire and Lube Express department of the Wal-Mart store in New Castle, Pa., unanimously rejected union representation in an election today, officials with Wal Mart Stores Inc. reported. The United Food and Commercial Workers had sought to organize the 17 workers in the department."We are pleased that our associates finally had a chance to vote and send a strong message to the union," said Terry Srsen, vice president of labor relations for Wal-Mart.
Today Is 2-1-1 Day in Mahoning County
Thursday, February 10, 2005"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- In the Mahoning County Courthouse, Don Cagigas and Duane Piccirilli this morning declared today 2-1-1 Day in the county, a reflection, they said, of the success achieved by Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way and Help Hotline since last June 28.Cagigas is president of United Way. Piccirilli is executive director of Help Hotline. Since that date, county residents have made 8,000 calls for non emergency information and referrals by dialing 2-1-1, Piccirilli and Cagigas reported.

Inc. announced today that it is expanding its presence in Erie, Pa., with the addition of new assembly capabilities at its Grandview Industrial Park location there. YSU Enrollment Up for 13th Consecutive Semester
Thursday, February 10, 2005YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Enrollment is up for the 13th consecutive semester at Youngstown State University. The preliminary, 14-day enrollment for spring semester is 12,396, up by 36 students from last spring semester, the university reported today.Enrollment has increased every semester -- spring, summer and fall -- since spring semester 2001. The number of students on campus in spring 2000 was 10,872. Enrollment has increased by 1,524 students since then, a jump of 14%, the university said.
Interest Groups, Their Money, Enter Social Security Battle"

In recent weeks, a half-dozen organizations have begun fund-raising, television and print campaigns to promote or oppose President Bush's plans to revamp the Social Security system. How these groups-some of which were among the most active 527s in the 2003-2004 election-intend to fund their campaigns is unclear.
