Ryan Joins AFL-CIO Chief in Opposing Fast Track

Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, says awarding trade promotion authority, commonly known as "fast track," to President Barack Obama increases the risk of this country negotiating international trade agreements that are bad for American workers and middle-class families.
"I know that the president has good intentions," Ryan said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. "But we believe that as some of these big corporations get into these countries, they’re going to take advantage of the deal to send more of our jobs overseas."

South Avenue Stakeholders Form Steering Committee
Thursday, January 22, 2015YOUNGSTOWN -- About 20 representatives from businesses on South Avenue, community groups and local agencies took the first steps Wednesday toward formally organizing a business association for the corridor.
“We were hoping to get a core [membership]. We're not sure how many businesses are going to be involved, but we want about 40. Today, we got almost half,” said the Rev. Al Yanno Jr., pastor of Metro Assembly of God Church.
60% of Consumers Check Their Credit Reports
Thursday, January 22, 2015WASHINGTON -- Eighty-five percent of Americans are aware they can check their credit report once a year at no charge and 60% have done so in the last 12 months, the American Bankers Association reported Wednesday.
The ABA hired Ipsos Public Affairs to conduct an online survey of 1,003 Americans ages 18 and older. Precision of the Ipsos survey, take between Dec. 11 and 14, is plus or minus 3.5%.
The survey is one aspect of the trade association’s efforts to encourage financial literacy, said Molly Wilkinson, executive director of the ABA Card Policy Council.

PNC, Owed $1.8M, Files Foreclosure on Ice Zone
Wednesday, January 21, 2015BOARDMAN, Ohio -- PNC Bank filed a foreclosure complaint Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio against Ice Zone Ltd. and business partners Bruce Zoldan and Thomas Hutch Jr. The complaint alleges that the Ice Zone and its partners are in default on a $2.8 million note issued on Dec. 22, 2009, and owes the bank nearly $1.8 million.
US Gas Prices Seen as Below $2 Per Gallon
Wednesday, January 21, 2015YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Two organizations predict the national average price of gasoline will drop below $2 per gallon, perhaps as soon as this week.
Both GasBuddy.com and AAA predict the price drop, putting the average per-gallon price at a level motorists haven’t seen since spring 2009.
“The current trend has the national average today at $2.05, which maintains the consistent rate of decline we’ve monitored for the past several months,” says Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.

City Envisions Deck at Lot NYO Wants with 20 Federal
Wednesday, January 21, 2015YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city wants to retain control of -- or at least the ability to use -- a parking lot near 20 Federal Place in case it gets the funds to build a parking deck on the site, Finance Director David Bozanich says.
The parking lot, at Wick Avenue and West Commerce Street, is a point of contention -- although not the only issue -- in discussions between the city and NYO Property Group. NYO submitted the sole bid last October in response to the city’s request for proposals.
