Halcon Resources Suspends Utica Drilling in 2014
Wednesday, March 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Halcon Resources Corp. confirms it plans to suspend drilling this year in the Utica shale in northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania and instead concentrate on developing its holdings in Texas and North Dakota.
"We do not have any plans to move a rig in there [Utica] at this time," Halcon President and CEO Floyd C. Wilson told analysts during a conference call last week. "We've got a well flowing back and a well resting, and we're just going to have to wait and see what the results are there."
Kress Building to Be Demolished in 2 Weeks
Wednesday, March 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- In response to concerns presented by the city’s fire chief, demolition of the Kress Building downtown should begin in about two weeks, says a representative of the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp.
The Youngstown Design Review Committee approved allowing the YCACIC to move forward on demolition of the building, 117-121 W. Federal St., at its meeting Tuesday morning.

House Prices Rise in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman
Wednesday, March 05, 2014IRVINE, Calif. – The prices of houses in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman region was 2.3% higher in January compared with a year before. The increase includes distressed sales.
Statewide, prices rose 4.7% including distressed houses and 4.2% excluding them, according to the most recent CoreLogic report. In Pennsylvania, home prices jumped 3.6% including distressed homes and 3.7% without.
Distressed sales include short sales and real-estate-owned transactions.
Area Nursing Centers Make Top-25 Lists for Satisfaction
Wednesday, March 05, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Five nursing homes and assisted living centers in the region have earned earned spots on the Top 25 list based on a survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging.
Making the list -- best score is 100 -- of nursing homes were Shepherd of the Valley-Boardman, with a score of 96.11, and Hampton Woods Nursing Center Inc., Poland, 97.41. On the list of assisted living centers are The Home for the Aged, Youngstown, 98.9; Sateri Home, Youngstown, 98.5; and Assisted Living Ministry Services LLC, East Liverpool, 98.
Ohio Expands Quicker Business Filings at Website

Businesses can now create a limited partnership and file for reinstatement -- steps that previously had to be done on paper forms and through the mail.
