Dry Cleaners Accepting Wire Hangers to Recycle
Monday, April 21, 2014LAURAL, Md. -- For Earth Day 2014, 386 professional drycleaners, all members of the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute, pledged to reduce wire hanger waste by 35 million hangers, or 1,050 tons of steel. That goal was met by a pledge from Gary Maloney of Nu-Yale Glacier Cleaners in Jeffersonville, Ind., which operates 12 locations in Indiana and Kentucky.

McDonough Opens Spring Graduating BFA Show

The exhibition opens Friday and concludes May 9.

Ohio Unemployment Declines to 6.1% in March
Friday, April 18, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio’s unemployment rate was 6.1% in March, down nearly half a percentage point from February’s 6.5% and more than a full point from March 2013’s 7.3%.
Nonfarm wage and salary employment increased by 600 over the month, to 5,282,900 in March, and the number of workers unemployed last month was 353,000, down from 377,000 in February. The number of unemployed in Ohio has decreased by 68,000 over the past 12 months from 421,000.
The national unemployment rate in March was 6.7%, unchanged from the month prior but down from 7.5% a year earlier.
Parking Deck Purchase Fits with EGCC Growth Plan
Friday, April 18, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The $3 million purchase of the downtown Plaza Parking garage by Higher Education Partners is an integral part of Eastern Gateway Community College's expansion in the region, officials say.
"It puts an exclamation mark on our business plans," says Laura Meeks, president of Eastern Gateway.
Higher Education Partners, based in Providence, R.I., is the development partner with EGCC. The company has a 20-year agreement with the college, and the deal insures that EGCC has a presence downtown for at least the next 20 years, Meeks notes.
