Thursday, October 03, 2013AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Fred Martin Ford is investing more than $1 million and the Ford Motor Co. an additional $750,000 to expand and renovate its dealership at 4701 Mahoning Ave.
Work began this week with the general contractor, DeSalvo Construction Co. of Hubbard, preparing the project’s first phase -- separating service departments for Fred Martin Ford and Fred Martin Mercedes Benz, the luxury brand sold in an adjacent building on the car lot.

Northside Nurses Authorize Another Strike

The vote, taken during meetings Wednesday, was nearly unanimous, according to the union. It follows last week's one-day strike by members of the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association.

Uncertain about Sales, Businesses Put Off Hiring
Thursday, October 03, 2013PITTSBURGH -- Only 17% of business owners in Ohio intend to add to their workforces in the next six months, 7% plan to lay off employees and 73% expect to make no change, finds a survey conducted by PNC Financial Services Group released today.
Nearly two in three, or 63%, responded that the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, had no effect on their decision to hire, maintain or reduce their workforces.
Tibetan Monks to Build Mandela at Westminster College
Thursday, October 03, 2013NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- A group of Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will visit Westminster College Oct. 13 to 19, Bryan Rennie, chairman of Westminster's department of religion, history, philosoph and classics, announced Wednesday.
The monks will create a sand mandala and offer a series of events free and open to the public, he said. They will construct the mandala on the lower level of McKelvey Campus Center over their week-long visit, and it will be swept up in a ceremonial dissolution.

Classic Airplane Takes Flight from Elser Airport
Wednesday, October 02, 2013NORTH LIMA -- In 1947, a sparkling red Staggerwing G17S, registration number NC80315, rolled out of the Beechcraft Corp. production plant in Wichita, Kan. The biplane – named “Staggerwing” because the bottom wing of that model is positioned slightly more forward than its top – was sold to one A.B. Cobb, a rancher in Montana.
Thus began an odyssey of three score and six years and thousands of miles.
