Sprint and Nextel Announce Merger
Wednesday, December 15, 2004OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Sprint and Nextel Communications Inc., Reston, Va., will merge to form a new company called Sprint Nextel, officials announced earlier today. The merger agreement has been approved unanimously by directors of both companies.The new company plans to spin off Sprint's local telecommunications business to its shareholders following the merger.Sprint and Nextel currently have a combined total equity value of approximately $70 billion and serve more than 35 million wireless subscribers on their networks and five million additional subscribers through affiliates and partners.

Wednesday, December 15, 2004STREETSBORO, Ohio -- Permco, an international maker of hydraulic pumps, filed suit yesterday in the Portage County Common Pleas Court asking that a South African firm be enjoined from using trade secrets that it allegedly stole from Permco as part of a a year-long industrial espionage plot.The lawsuit charges a former Permco employee, Jack Buffin, of Stow, Ohio, with conspiring with Dosco GPM holdings of Edanvale, South Africa, to steal manufacturing techniques and cost and pricing figures, along with supplier and distributor information.Permco has turned evidence over to federal authorities i

Wednesday, December 15, 2004PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse, a nonprofit organization whose members include the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a consortium of member firms and three leading Pennsylvania Universities, has merged with The Robotics Foundry, an independent, nonprofit economic development organization formed to accelerate the growth of the emerging, agile robotics industry, officials announced earlier today.The merged organization will be known as The Technology Collaborative. The new entity will retain all staff members from each organization and is currently seeking new office space.
