Convocation Center Bids Come in Millions Over Estimates
Tuesday, December 21, 2004"By George Nelson YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- More than three-fourths of the bid proposals opened Tuesday for work on the Youngstown Convocation Center were over the city engineer's estimates, ranging from nearly $2,000 to more than $1 million in some cases. City officials opened bids Tuesday for a dozen scopes of work on the convocation center, now under construction between the Market Street and South Avenue bridges. The total cost of the project has been estimated at $41 million -- $26.8 million of which will be subsidized with a federal grant.

Motorists meeting arriving passengers can wait for free until passengers call to say they are ready to be picked up terminal curbside, although they must remain in their vehicles at all times, according to Fred Krum, airport director.In addition to the free waiting lot, two other new initiatives are designed to help make gate screening a more pleasant experience: traveler tote bags and a Checkpoint Mailer.
Sky Financial to Acquire Belmont Bancorp
Tuesday, December 21, 2004"BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Sky Financial Group Inc. plans to acquire Belmont Bancorp, Bridgeport, Ohio, and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Belmont National Bank, officials announced earlier today. The transaction is valued at $69.2 million, based upon Sky Financial's closing stock price as of Dec. 21.
Welty/Ricciuti Chosen to Build 7th District Courthouse

Limited, Akron, and Ricciuti Balog & Partners Architects, Youngstown, were awarded the contract Tuesday to build the courthouse for the Ohio 7th District Court of Appeals in the downtown.The board of Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. determined that Welty/Ricciuti, in addition to submitting the lowest bid Dec. 4, also submitted the best bid at just over $3.4 million.

SBA Implements New Policy for Federal Contracting
Tuesday, December 21, 2004"WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Small Business Administration has implemented a new policy that enables the federal government to more accurately monitor contract awards when a small business is purchased or merged with a large business through the process of novation. "Dana Corp. to Close Muskegon, Mich., Foundry"
Tuesday, December 21, 2004"TOLEDO, Ohio -- Dana Corp. has signed a long-term agreement with Federal-Mogul Corp. to supply Dana with grey iron castings from its western Michigan facility. Consequently, Dana will close its Muskegon, Mich., foundry operations. Production is expected to end in the third quarter of 2005, eliminating approximately 240 jobs.
