Ohio New Business Filings Nearly 8K in September
Monday, October 20, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In September, 7,947 new entities filed to do business in Ohio, up from 6,239 the same month a year earlier, the office of Secretary of State Jon Husted reports.
Year to date though September, there have been 71,668 new business filings through the office, compared with the 68,562 filings during the first nine months of 2013.
Economic Action Group Mobilizes Downtown Ideas

The Economic Action Group, which met for the first time last December, will hold its 10th meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Youngstown Business Incubator. During the meeting, downtown property owners will make presentations regarding past projects and future development plans.

Nonetheless, because he brought a check for $42.974 million for businesses and local governments in Mahoning and Trumbull County, Buehrer was treated like Santa Claus. The president and CEO of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Tom Humphries, was on hand to have his picture taken with Buehrer and the oversized “symbolic check.”

SBA Ranks Huntington Bank No. 1 Lender in US
Monday, October 20, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Huntington Bank reports it has become the largest Small Business Administration 7(a) lender in the United States for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
The bank made 4,183 loans that totaled $549 million in its six-state footprint, an increase of 37% over fiscal 2103 when it ranked third. Huntington has a presence in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Michigan, central Indiana, northern Kentucky and northern West Virginia.
The parent of the bank, Huntington Bancshares Inc., has $64 billion in assets.
Hess Corp. Sets Up YSU Scholarship for Engineering

The scholarship is available to residents of Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont and Guernsey counties.
The scholarship is intended to encourage and support students pursuing a degree in civil, mechanical, systems, electrical and construction engineering and is open to nontraditional students and displaced workers who return to college to regain employment.

National Bancshares Reports Record 3Q Net Income
Monday, October 20, 2014ORRVILLE, Ohio -- National Bancshares, the holding company of First National Bank of Orrville, reports third-quarter net income of $1.59 million, or 72 cents per basic share, a record.
This compares to net income of $1.43 million, or 64 cents per basic share, the preceding quarter, and $1.04 million, or 47 cents, per basic share, the quarter ended June 30, 2013.
First National Bank has an office in Salem, one of 14 in northeastern Ohio.
