Huntington Increases Lead in Market Share in Valley
Wednesday, October 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Huntington National Bank has increased its leading market share in the Youngstown-Warren SMA, FDIC statistics show, and the bank has seen its share of the market in Trumbull County go to first from second a year ago.
“We’re very pleased with the numbers,” said Frank Hierro, president of the Mahoning Valley region of Huntington Bank. It encompasses Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennsylvania.

Wednesday, October 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Because of the federal government shutdown that began Tuesday, about a half dozen local applications for loans from a U.S. Small Business Administration program are in a holding pattern, reports the executive director of the Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp.
MVEDC, in Liberty Township, administers three federal loan programs for the region including the 504 program that provides second-position loans for fixed-asset projects. “It is rather unique. It is a program that has been in effect for about 30 years,” said Mike Conway, MVEDC executive director.

Wednesday, October 02, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- After suffering a heart attack in 2007, Jim Converse, manager of the Northside Farmers’ Market, underwent quintuple heart bypass surgery at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Last Oct. 17, after setting up for a farmers’ market at St. E’s, Converse suffered a second heart attack.
“It was a busy day setting up tables and at first I thought I overexerted myself or had a light heat stroke,” Converse recalled. “I had a headache and I was sweating. I sat and rested but the symptoms persisted. Then I thought to myself, ‘I think I’m having a heart attack.’”
GM September Sales Down 11%, Cruze Down 50.6%
Tuesday, October 01, 2013DETROIT -- General Motors Co. dealers delivered 187,195 vehicles in the United States in September, down 11% compared year over year, the company reported this morning.
Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze, built in Lordstown, Ohio, were down 50.6% in September compared to August, but remain ahead of 2012 year-to-date by 8.4%.
GM said its retail sales were down 6% compared to a year ago and fleet sales were down 27%. Retail sales were up 2% on a selling day-adjusted basis.
